Nelson Ijakaa is a young Kenyan artist born in and based out of Nairobi. He considers himself a multi-disciplinary artist and values the idea over the vehicle used to bring forth this idea. Initially his main subject matter was rendered in oil and acrylic paintings with various tools and techniques until he attended his first residency at the Brush Tu art studio in 2017 where as part of his body of work he worked with sculpture and installation in the form of shadow art in essence working with both 2 and 3 dimensions. Besides this he also explored printmaking techniques which have left an impact on his general practice. The artist has been involved in multiple social engagements within the field of the arts and in various capacities with the general aim of making the visual arts more accessible to local youth and the community and highlighting issues surrounding social justice. He is currently fascinated by and working to create a body of work with the use of Virtual, Mixed and Augmented Reality.
